Gary Geddes, the author of an important new book about Africa, will join us to discuss it.  Drink the Bitter Root: A Search for Justice and Healing in Africa is a story about the ethical and environmental footprint world nations (including African nations) are leaving in Africa in their efforts to destabilize and loot the continent. This is an intimate personal travelogue that takes the reader through Rwanda, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Somaliland, and beyond. In writing this book, Geddes interviewed women who had been raped and infected with HIV as well as other victims of horrible violence and devastation across the continent. He spoke with former child soldiers, refugees, and poets turned freedom fighters. Drink the Bitter Root confronts dark realities, while also documenting a richly rewarding travel experience, with amazing stories of survival and unexpected moments of grace.
